2006 saw the launch of the ISP Diploma on-line resource and an important change in the way the course is run. Candidates now have 24/7 access to the papers, case studies and other resources and that is particularly important when they are studying in their own time, at home and at work. No longer does a bag full of stuff have to travel everywhere with them.

The resource runs on a platform provided by specialist on-line education providers Nelson Croom (www.nelsoncroom.co.uk) and has the potential to provide many more interactive functions than we are currently using, providing us with room to grow and evolve over the coming years. The move to online has also had a number of other significant benefits. Alina Cartledge is a previous Diploma graduate now working in Australia and in charge of education for the Australasian Promotional Marketing Association (APMA). She approached us this year to look into providing a tailored version of the course for Australia and New Zealand. Consultants over there are currently rewriting Module 2 (Legal and Code) so that a variant of the course can be featured on the Online Resource for 2007. The common parts of their submissions will be marked in the UK and they will mark their Module 2 questions. This would be so much more complicated to run if there were paper-based materials circumnavigating the globe.

We have also had interest from one multinational company to design a version of the ISP Motivation Diploma (which is also on the Online resource) for 100 of their staff worldwide – again eminently doable given the new delivery platform. Today Britain, tomorrow the world!

Can you remember the first time you made a presentation to someone very senior and important? Five of this year’s Diploma candidates can, because they took part in ‘The Pitch’ at The Odeon Leicester Square recently. Five of the top scorers on the Set Brief were given the opportunity to present their proposals to the Marketing Director of Odeon, the ISP Chairman and the Features Editor of Marketing Week (the course sponsor). Nerves were clearly running high, but the clarity of thinking and pure professionalism of their presentations was outstanding. The winner of a year pass to Odeon Cinemas went to Rachel Patman from The Communication Agency.

The ISP Diploma and Certificate courses are open for enrolment now and will be until 31st January.
